Last summer the "Gelateria Italiana" project was established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and attended by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Assocamerestero, Isnart and Sigep / Rimini Fiera. "Gelateria Italiana" will be a useful mark of approval for Italian ice cream shops abroad in order to help them be identified by clients for their qualified and certified product.
Business ventures abroad are increasing
In the last few years an increasing number of entrepreneurs from the ice cream sector have decided to go abroad with their business thanks to the high quality associated to Italian Ice-cream. The know-how and the knowledge of Italian Ice-cream business has been internationalized and spread by professionals all over the world. This includes everything from food to furniture and technologies, to finally exporting.
Not only certification
In addition to the certification, this project also has the aim to improve the situation for operators and to encourage the collaboration between the stakeholders of the ice cream industry, in order to create new promotion opportunities.
Steadily increasing
In 2013 the total ice-cream export totaled € 207.5 million, showing an increase of 4% from 2008. In the first nine months of 2014 it increased by 11.2% compared to the first nine months of 2013. The ice-cream trade balance is also positive: +86.6 million euro in 2013. In 2013, the countries exporting the majority of the ice-cream were: France (45.9 million euros, 22.1% of the total export of ice cream), Germany (42 million euros; 20.3%), Spain (26 million euros; 12.5%), the UK (13.3 million euros; 6.4%), the Netherlands (10.7 million euros; 5.2%) and the US (7.3 million euros; 3.5%).
The five years 2008-2013 show a big increase for Brazil, Malaysia, Philippines, Estonia, Bulgaria and Singapore.
