Bologna at the centre of ancient grains

Kamut, Ifoam and Uni Bologna will present the 1st International Conference of Wheat Landraces for Healthy Food System in Bologna from June 13th to 15th 2018. This event, an international conference on ancient grains, will gather researchers from all over the world to present the latest research, with a focus on nutritional characteristics and health benefits. These three days will be dedicated to food, research and health, but also agricultural systems, flavours and tastes, as well as market prospects.

The conference was born from an idea by Bob Quinn, pioneer of organic productions and president of Kamut International ltd and Kamut Enterprises of Europe bvba.

It is essential to rediscover the history of ancient grains and explain their benefits as well as comparison with modern cereals. In the face of the growing increase - between 12% and 20% in industrialised Countries - of people suffering from eating problems related to wheat consumption, such as celiac disease and gluten sensitivity, it becomes increasingly important to try to understand the causes of problems of sensitivity and intolerance to modern wheat and the advantage that can derive from a diet based on ancient cereals.

The conference will also involve biologists and agronomists to talk about agriculture of the future, with a particular focus on alternative agriculture systems with less impact
